More To Come

I've been lazy when it comes to blogging lately, mainly because there hasn't been incredibly exciting news to report. I promise to update soon, really.

Fix Yourself a Dang Quesadilla!

I kind of make it up as I go. It's really easy. Take your tortilla shell, but some cheese on it (more if you like cheese, less if you don't). Now slice some tomatoes and lay them on the cheese. Put some spinach on there, and some red and yellow bell peppers. You can put mushrooms on there if you aren't my sister. Put some more cheese on top of that stuff and put the other tortilla shell atop the mountain of goodness. Put them on a pan in the oven at 350* until you can start to smell the goodness. Flip your quesadilla and slide it back in the oven for a few minutes. By now the smell of goodness should have permeated your nostrils and the rest of your house. Take it out and cut it up into whatever size triangles you desire. 4 if you're feeling frisky, 8 if you're feeling snacky. Eat them up with salsa, sour cream, avocado, or nothing. Milk is an excellent beverage to enjoy with this easy meal.

Dangit, Whole Foods has some pretty tasty recipes too!

Another Awesome Day

I feel like the weekend just ended, and here we are, over halfway to the next one. Yesterday I did the Happy's run, which was fun. It's still too hot for me to complete the entire thing, which is pretty sad considering I used to be able to run that without even thinking about it, but at least I'm doing something. Whilst waiting for the pizza that follows the run, I spied some buddies across the street. I met up with them a little bit later for some hang out time, but still made it home and to bed at a reasonable hour. Work today was not as dull as usual, we got in a cleaning mode and got a bunch of stuff taken care of...not to mention Wednesday is the day patients come in, so that always adds a little excitement to the day. On the way home from work this afternoon I got a text from JK, so I stopped off at George's to meet up with her and her buddies. After that we headed to Red Star before heading home to a tasty, tasty quesadilla. Mmmmmmmm. It is my new go-to meal. So easy, so tasty, so quick. My parents gave me some of their home grown tomatoes, so that adds a lot to the deliciousness that is an easy quesadilla. Now I'm just watching some tv and lounging. Tomorrow work ends early for hospice time, and Friday is usually a short day, so I have definitely made it beyond the longest part of the week. Did I mention that I had to nix the Miami Vice viewing? Beyond season 2 and they just got...well...bad. I watched season 3, but when season 4 started with the cryogenically frozen corpse of a reggae stars remains being hijacked...I had to bail.

Target

Saturday I stopped off at Target before going to pick Annie up from her weekend with the boys, and made some purchases. A while back my $9.99 Target watch died, and I was very sad. It was actually shortly after I returned from Florida last summer, so almost a year ago... I replaced it when I finally saw one like it. I should have been suspicious because I hadn't seen this particular style in a long time, and it was the only one there. I got home and put it on. For the next few days I kept thinking there was a teenage boy nearby because I could smell cologne. Then I noticed that my watch was losing time. Then I noticed that the watch smelled like a teenage boy. Since then I have not seen one like it until Saturday. Yea! New watch! Smells new, runs like new!

I also have been using a pillow case that used to belong to my sister, that comes off of the pillow in the night because it's so worn out. It's super soft, but doesn't stay on because it's just stretched/holey/etc. So I checked out the Simply Shabby selection, which I've always kind of admired and coveted. I found a cute set of white sheets with a ruffle at the top and on the sides of the pillow cases. I have washed them and will try them out tonight. I know they won't be as awesome as the sheets I already had, but I'm sure they will soften with time.

Then I spied a little purse for $9.99. I like purses and wallets, and things in general, that when you open them up the inside is a different color or pattern than the outside. It just makes me happy for some reason. It's blue seersucker with a bright green interior. And then I got a pair of cheap sunglasses to replace my other cheap sunglasses that I lost recently. Now I'm going to go try and find these items online so I can include pictures. Wheeeeeeee!

Snoopy

Snoopy is the cutest dog ever. Maybe even cuter than Annie.

Have I Mentioned...

1. That I love Gene Simmons? Love him.
2. That I have been secretly thinking that I should order the Bender Ball ab workout system? Today I actually went to the website and was about to order it, but then noticed that it's like Columbia House and they keep sending you video workouts every other month and you have to call and end your membership. And if anyone out there has ever tried to call and close an AOL account, you are well aware how difficult that can be. You may as well cancel the card and get a new one.
3. That I heart Lady J? because I can't remember if I've ever accidentally blogged that I heart her after I've been out drinking with her
4. That I should stick with beer? Because mixed drinks tend to get me silly drunk

I heart Lady J. more than I heart anything else. Lady J. Thank you for being my Lady J. Lady J. Lady J. Lady J. If I could be the BFF ever, I would. hoochie.

Awesome Weekend...

So far my weekend has been fantastic. I went to New Orleans yesterday afternoon so's I could see Mystery Guest and we could go have some yum-ola dinner. It's been a while since I've gone to Dick and Jenny's without it being Lesley and I going on a whim after several drinks. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO delicious! And the company was excellent as well. After dinner, we wandered down the block to 45 Tchoup to catch the end of the LSU game. When we got there it was 3-3, and things looked hopeful. Then all of the sudden it was 7-3 and then seconds later the game was OVER. Dang! But I did get to see Deb, Unlawful Waffle, and some other favorite people o' mine, which was nice. We headed home after the game and called it a night with full bellies. Yum. What did we eat, you ask?

For appetizers, we shared Warm crawfish and andouille cheesecake with chipotle aioli and the Corn Fried Louisiana Oysters with Southern Slaw and New Orleans Remoulade and for the main event, Mystery Guest enjoyed the Bronzed Pork Loin Stuffed with Goat Cheese, Basal, & Pine Nuts with Sweet Potato Mash and Warm Smoked Tomato-Balsamic Vinaigrette and I pigged out on the Duck Duet: Pan Seared Duck Breast and Crispy Leg Confit with Dirty Risotto, Southern Greens, and Dried Cherry Demi Glace. And Oh My Yum! It was so good! Thanks for dinner, Mystery Guest!

This morning I hunted my sister down and found her before she went to work, we got to hang out for a little while, and then she headed off to her J.O.B. I took that opportunity to go to Whole Foods and grab something to eat. I picked out a nice looking Almond Croissant and then headed over to look at the sandwiches. they had some chicken salad croissants, which looked pretty damn good, so I picked up two of those and two bags of chips, as well as some berries for my sister. Then I went over to see Lesley, but on my way I decided to drive by my old house (they've recently started actually working on it!) as I inched by, I noticed a guy inside who definitely wasn't part of the work crew. I parked, I got out and asked if it was his house. It was! I told him about how much I loved the house and how sad I was when we sold it, and he was SO nice. I'm SO glad that he has it. I can't wait to see the progression over the weeks. He says he expects to be able to move in within 3 or so months. I am jealous, and told him that I'm totally going to knock and the door and ask for a tour. He said that would be fine, and that I definitely should. It is really nice knowing that something I loved so much is in good hands. It's a great feeling, actually.

After that visit, I went to Parasols and skipped the croissant and dove into lunch with Lesley (hence the 2 sandwiches and 2 bags of chips) I farted around there for a couple of hours and then figured I ought to start thinking about heading home. I went and visited my sister for a bit before hopping in Joan and hitting the road. Now I'm back home, and I'm really excited to be here...it's a stormy-ish afternoon, so I'm kind-of excused from doing anything other than neatening and indoor stuff, and I look forward to having all day tomorrow to buy groceries, read, paint, run, pick my butt, and WHATEVER I FEEL LIKE DOING BECAUSE IT'S THE WEEKEND AND I'M AT HOME! So yeah. It's been an awesome weekend so far, let's hope it continues in this pattern....

Here's a picture from a while back that I forgot to post. Next week I will definitely have pictures of the house and an update. So exciting!!!

James N' Things

There used to be an establishment on Washington Avenue in New Orleans called James-N-Things. It was a favorite place of many of my friends. No, not because we needed A) James or B) Things; but because of its creative moniker. What did this place sell? How many James did they have in stock, what types of other Things did they have? I wish it still existed, because I would go in there and demand some James and some things. The end.

While looking for a picture of James & Things, I considered first trying to remember this image to google because J&T wasn't coming up with anything. Then I googled "james & things" new orleans... and came up with one result. A comment I had left when I found the image. So here is a link. Read the first comment to fully experience the Doin' Thangs experience.

Not Much To Report

There's not much going on with me right now... just working and trying to be less lazy. Annie and I have resumed our trips to the dog park since our return from the Big City, and she seems to enjoy it. I had some more of that lasagna for dinner, and treated myself to a snowball after my run this afternoon. It's hot outside, like crazy hot. Right now my neighbor is weed eating, and it sounds so much like a dentist's drill, I really don't think it can possibly be a weed eater. What the heck is he doing???????

As It Will Be....

Forever. Went to dinner with Amy B. and Kat N. at Monjunis, which isn't my first choice, but I got a slab of lasagna nearly the size of my head. It may feed me for the rest of the week! But the dinner was good, and the wine was very mild and palatable. It's good to be home again, but I fear I'm planning another 2 weekends out of town. Another Special Guest arriving in the New Orleans area next weekend has me thinking I'll never have another weekend at my house again. The weeds growing in my back yard will be taller than my chin, and I'll have to get out a machete to trim a pathway to the back gate.

So. Be. It. In about one month I will be embarking on my vacation. I bought a ticket to Philadelphia about 3-5 months ago in anticipation of DPIV, of which there have been DP, DPII, DPII. Finally, I will attend DPIV, because I'M NOT IN SCHOOL THIS SUMMER!!!! I'll be spending about a week with CEGGD, and I can't wait for the silliness that ensues. And for now? I'll watch a little more Will and Grace before I retire to my bed where I'll read a little bit more from the engaging-yet-a-bit-cheesy book that I'm reading. And How! Neither Me! And That! The End!

Check out JD and I at the Yacht Rock Party! Thanks, JD!

Sailing...Takes Me Away...

So Jimmy Dean rolled into town Thursday evening, just in time to swing by the dog park for a little action. Somehow between the time she walked through the door and the time we were leaving to go to the dog park, she lost her keys. The best suggestion I could come up with was that they were locked in the trunk. Call AAA and pop-a-lock comes out. No keys. They were eventually found in a random place, and we headed out for dinner. As I take everyone I know and love to Chelsea's, nothing was different with dear old Jimmy Dean. We had an enjoyable dinner and proceeded to sit outside and drink glass after glass of wine. Then we headed home and slept solidly for a fair amount of time. There was general confusion in the AM, and almost another call to AAA, but we eventually got everything together and headed to New Orleans.

JD decided she wanted to go shopping ASAP when she got to NO, so I went over to my sister's house, dropped Annie off, and went by to see Mystery Guest, who happened to have this weekend off. We then went to see my sister at her place of employment, and she told me that she had wanted me to take H&L to the toy store. So we headed to Teflon's to pick up the kids, and passed by the Magic Box to buy a birthday present for one of Lucy's BFFs. We met up with Jimmy Dean, Unlawful Waffle, and S. at Juan's Flying Burrito and had some vittles to prepare ourselves for the evening. After that we headed over to 45 Tchoup to see Deb and have some drinks. We actually wound up staying at 45 Tchoup for the remainder of the evening until a unanimous decision was made that it was time to go.

Saturday morning was kicked off with a delicious breakfast at Slim Goodies, followed by more shopping for JD and some pre Yacht Rock Regatta purchases for Moreoles, Mystery Guest and myself. Fast forward to 4:something, when we were all decked out in our Yacht Rock attire and headed over to HHs for some smooth sailing. There was a delightful array of tropical beverages, delicious eats, and the ambiance of pure smoothitude. I wasn't a very good photographer at the event, but Jimmy Dean has some excellent shots, and I'll post some of her pictures later. For now, you'll have to enjoy this stunning photo of Venchachi, whose brainchild is the wonder that is the Yacht Rock party. We set sail for the Kingpin for a few drinks before we headed to the Rendezvous to meet up with the Ponytail, and I had to leave earlier than the rest of the crowd. I'm out of practice, y'see?

Sunday morning there was another trip to Slim Goodies, with a communal burger to make the morning right. Yum-E. JD and Unlawful Waffle departed for the tomato festival, and I departed for a long nap. We met up in the evening for a late sushi dinner at my sister's house, and parted ways one last time... Until next time. Thanks for a great trip, JD. I'm glad you're my circular saw, party box, ho's down, smooth sailin' friend.

Anticipation

I'm really excited about the arrival of Jimmy Dean tomorrow afternoon. So excited in fact that I hitched a ride down to New Orleans yesterday afternoon with a friend who was on her way down there with another friend. We met up with Moreoles at the Kingpin and had a couple of drinks before heading downtown to dine at Port of Call. Oh sweet yumminess. I forget the magic that is a delicious burger and potato from Port of Call. I forget that there IS one place where I can consistently get a perfect burger. Did y'all know how much I love a good burger? Because it's probably in my top 5 on my list of favorite things. Pair it with some skinny, well salted fries; and you've made for a really happy girl. After dinner, Moreoles and I headed back uptown and wound up back at the Kingpin. Watched the Celtics vs. the Lakers, and eventually caught up with Mystery Guest. We headed back to the Red Stick this morning, and I arrived at work to find that Windows Vista once again had sucked the life out of me and my computer. Remember back when my laptop was stolen and my work computer died? We replaced it with an HP running Windows Vista. I did my research before we bought it, I made sure that Vista could network with XP, unfortunately, I made sure on the Windows website. Holy Shit! The networking issues on this machine make me want to rip my hair out and cry. I spend more time at work trying to fix the networking situation than I do completing actual work. It is super frustrating. Once I finally got the computer working, M reminded me that today was the day I was supposed to register for fall classes... Arrgh! So I sat down and requested the sections I wanted, and lo and behold! they were all available! I am VERY pleased. And now I'm just doing laundry, dishes, sweeping, and general prep for the arrival of JD as I try really hard not to totally fall asleep because I'm REALLY TIRED! Oh yeah, and I realized somewhat recently that I really do enjoy broccoli. The end!

mmmmmmmmmmmm, Port of Call!

Getting Stuff Done

I went to bed pretty early last night, and took a nap yesterday afternoon. The result? I was up at 6:30. I took the girls for their morning walk, then embarked on a short run. The first run I've participated in since before I went to Florida. It was hot (but it's been WAY HOTTER), it was exhausting, and I wanted to quit 5 minutes in, but I kept with it and feel better for it. After that I finished the book I was reading and then prepared to run some errands. I keep talking about how I want to start a new painting, and then when I actually have the time to do that, I realize that I am out of gesso. So errand number one was to go buy some new gesso. Now I have some, and later in the day I even used a little. After that I went to visit my parents before I headed to pick up the rest of Amy J.'s dog pack from the vet's office and drop them off at her house. Then I went out and bought me a spankin' new tv! It's not as big as my old one, and as far as I know it doesn't have the awesome smart sound feature my old one did, but it works, and is bigger than the one I had borrowed from my parents. I came back home and had some lunch, did some dishes, played on the computer, watched some tv, and finally got down to what I really want to be doing but am afraid to do because I'm afraid I'll get stuck. I started a new painting, or new magazine scrap pasting picture rather. It features one of my very favorite friends from my youth, whom I was reunited with when I released him into the wild earlier this year. What was really awesome about his release is the fact that he attracted another just like him. Yes, folks. It's LING LING!!!! I've hardly done anything with it yet, and switched from gesso to matte medium and kind of decided to stick with matte medium. Then I watched some more tv before heading off to the park with the slacky khakis. They're contentedly panting and drooling all over the floor now, and Petunia is actually awfully close to Annie, which is awfully close to me, and I have yet to hear a warning noise from Annie. And Petunia? She makes the weirdest noises throughout the day. I think she feels like a puppy when she stays at Auntie Nat's house, because she's really playful and smiles a lot. Anyway, that's my day so far. I may meet up with JK and Green Bean in a bit to watch the LSU game, or I might not. For now, I think a shower may be a wise idea.

I always enjoy reusing photos of Ling Ling!

That's What Friends Are For

Jimmy Dean is Coming to Town!

I'm very excited, because by this time next week I will have the one and only Jimmy Dean in my general vicinity. Jimmy Dean and I met 14 years ago outside of room number 143 in Josephine Louise Hall at Tulane University. We had talked on the phone once before, but as she summered in Alaska the connection wasn't perfect and the conversation was tempered by a time lag and anxiety. I thought she was nice, though "alternative" in her flannel, and I can't even guess what she thought of me. We went out to lunch, and I tried to show off by ordering a beer with lunch. That's right, JD... 18 is the legal drinking age in Louisiana in 1994 (or legal selling age, to be more accurate). During the summer, I had lived in an apartment with T and her boyfriend free of charge, and the offer was still standing at the time. Who the hell is going to move into a dorm when they've got their own room and bathroom in their off campus apartment? I informed my mother that I was going to keep living with T. That night, the night we escaped from the orientation activities, we went out with T and her boyfriend. The next day, I started moving my stuff into the dorm. Doggles "Jimmy Dean" Styles Brice became my long time companion. The cheese to my macaroni. We went out EVERY night. I would try to keep her up if I couldn't sleep by mimicking Dionne Warwick in her Psychic Friends Network commercials. We would crank call our friend, S, who lived upstairs in "the deep" and laugh for hours at Gina's purple pleated pants. In a post earlier this week, I may have unintentionally alluded to a feeling of regret that I didn't make tons of friends because I hadn't attended orientation. I didn't mean I regretted it, I certainly did not. My friendship with Jimmy Dean is something I take pretty darn seriously, and I feel that our closeness stems a lot from our exclusivity. And plus, she is way cooler than Whitney and Heather who lived next door and every other person living on JL Odd. Or the Deep, or anywhere for that matter. I wouldn't trade her for all the people who attended orientation, and I thank her for being my friend. (cue the song.....)

Badass Ladies Don't Drive Mercedes

If you are one of the privileged folk who received a text message with this little ditty, I was behind a car on my way to the gas station the other day and it was written on the back window. I assume a badass lady was at the wheel, because it was NOT a Mercedes. Anyway. I didn't give in to temptation and found myself at work this morning, but before I went in I went and picked up my new license plate for Joan Jetta. After working for a few hours, I had to go pick up Uncle Buddy from the vets office (Uncle Buddy the dog, not Uncle Buddy the human that lives in the Veterans War Home- the latter does not exist) and bring him back to my parents, as they returned from the beach on this fine day. After that I met T$ for lunch, and as I pulled in she warned me that the parking was really tight, so I opted to park in an adjoining lot. As I reversed into the parallel slot, I heard a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SCRAPING NOISE. There was some sort of cable jutting into the space- which was clearly marked as a space mind you- So Joan has a new scrape, her first. Sigh. I am going to take her in to be fixed because I refuse to let this car go to crap, and that is how it starts-- oh, it's just a scratch... followed by.... oh, it's just the seat the dog ate...just the side view mirror, just the windows won't go down, the a/c is out... and then you're driving a legitimate piece of shit! Dang! So. I went back to work until it was time to head to the IPU, then after that went to the dog park with Annie and Petunia. Now I'm home waiting for some friends to come over for a girlie get together in the back yard. Amen.

Dog Days

Oof! I'm pooped! And I didn't really do anything of great significance today... I had my very first grad skool meeting, which was significant I guess, but doesn't warrant my lethargy. It was basically a 2.5 hour meeting where they talked and talked about things we needed to know. Woohoo! Can't wait for orientation in August, which will just be more of the same, I'm sure. But I guess these things are really important, and I realized this during class. My original freshman year at Tulane was launched with major aversion to these types of events. My roommate and I managed to sneak out of one orientation session early, and never returned for another. This was all good and fun because we went out instead of meeting our classmates, but it wound up making us pretty much each other's only friends. I have friends that I wound up meeting later on who had met each other at orientation events. I mean, I love Jimmy Dean to death, and would not change our friendship that evolved from this exclusive partnership for anything, but I don't think it would have been horrible if we had known a few other people too. So basically, I guess I'm saying that I will grudgingly attend orientation activities this time around, because it can't hurt to have a friend here and there. After the meeting I went to my parents house to let Wee Kitty out of his luxury condo for a bit and then water the plants and such. I picked up a sandwich on my way to meet my new hospice patient, which I called him from my parents' house, and he was up for a visit this afternoon, so I said I'd be there at 3:00 not realizing what time it actually was and how much stuff I needed to get taken care of before 3:00. (By the way, Hair It Is was discharged from hospice, so I'm not visiting with her anymore. It's something I kind of have a problem with- if she had improved drastically and was judged to be no longer eligible it would be a different story, but my experience with her left me feeling as though she were declining rather than improving- but I'm not a nurse, a social worker, a hospice employee, and I don't know her whole history. I just know that her family and regular sitter really appreciated the time I spent with her, and it bothers me that I don't get to do that anymore. I could go on my own time, but unfortunately, my own time is limited!) Okay, so I headed over and met him, he's very nice and actually knew my grandfather eons ago. He got tired relatively quickly, so I let him rest and made arrangements to return again next week. When I got home, I gathered Annie and Petunia and headed for the dog park. We decided to walk instead of drive today, because I found that if I let Annie explore during the first 2 blocks of the walk, she doesn't PULL the rest of the walk. It's REALLY hard to wrangle 2 weims when one is pulling one way and the other pulls another. So once we got to the park, they were totally hot and tired, and just kind of stood around dazedly looking at the other dogs, occasionally taking the time to sniff a new behind. We walked home, I unwound with a little tv, and then I met up with PL for dinner. Guess where???? Yum! So that's that. That's today. I was hoping that I would get to start on a new painting today, but here it is 8:08 pm and I'm totally pooped and not about to embark on such an endeavor. I may not go in to work tomorrow and instead start something in the hours before I head to the IPU for some more volunteerin'. Yo! This was a long and rambling post! I'm going to re-post a previously posted photo of Petunia from the last time she visited. I left my camera in El Segundo. Oops! Okay, it's one I haven't posted yet, that sums Petunia up in her paw-crossing snooty ways!

Newly Renovated City Park

This afternoon I picked up a related-through-friendship weimaraner to babysit for the next couple of days. After I did some cleaning and grocery shopping, I packed the ladies up and headed over to the newly opened dog park. Holy Cannoli, did they have a good time! The rules of the park say that there should be no unattended children in the designated dog area, but there is a swarm of about 10 kids who just looooooooove to play with the dogs. They're really sweet kids, and I can only hope that as they apparently don't have any supervision, they can meet some great adults and form some lasting relationships with a great group of dogs. It's really funny, because Annie can sometimes get irritable when kids get in her face, and I had no idea how Petunia would react, but they both LOVE the attention! It's awesome. When Petunia's mom returns, she's going to have to bring the dogs out along with her camera for some great photography. It's really awesome!

Laziness

I'm feeling really blah and lazy, like not doing anything. I'm going to take Annie down to the dog park in about 20 minutes, which should be fun, but otherwise I'm pretty content to just watch reruns on tv. KK & DD are out of town for their annual trek to the beach, so there is even less work than usual to tend to at the office, so we're pretty much doing half days. I totally could have used the afternoon to work in the yard or paint or something, but I did not take advantage of my free time. I didn't wind up blogging about the wedding last night because some friends came over and we spent a few hours in the back yard talking, and now I feel so blah that I don't think I should write about the wedding. I'll just say this. Best. Wedding. Ever.

Random Post

I'm home, and so happy to be home. Yet I kind of feel like sleeping on the couch and watching tv all night. Annie has gas. The end.

Yesterday's Post

I missed yesterday because things got pretty busy about mid-day and didn't stop until I went to sleep. Things started off nice and leisurely, I met up with Moreoles so that we could get pedicures. We went to a newish place on Magazine called Kathy's Nails. Kathy's Nails has all new massage chairs. Very flirtatious and violating massage chairs. I got there a few minutes after Lesley, and turned on the massager thing. About a minute in, it started a butt massage, which felt like someone was pushing an upside-down bowl onto your butt. Or into your butt if it could. I looked at Lesley in surprise, and she said "I know! It's very violating. You can press this button and it will stop." I may be able to entertain myself for an entire weekend by just sitting there and witnessing peoples reactions to the butt brigade. Yikes!

After our pedicures, Kablog! met up with us and we went across the road and down a bit to Raw for lunch. I had a really nice little special that consisted of a bunch of food- shrimp/vegetable tempura, gyoza, salad, miso soup, and 4 avocado/cucumber rolls. All for 7.95! It was a steal, I think. Over lunch we realized that there was time-sensitive stuff that needed to be taken care of, and regrouped and doled out the errands...I went and picked up Heather's female relatives and deposited them at the salon so they could get their hair did, and Kate and Lesley drove the flowers and dresses to where the wedding was. Then it was time for me to check in on Annie and visit the kids before I got myself ready for the big event. And that is what today's post is about, so I guess I'll end this one here!

this one be fancy!
